WOMEN, UNITE!

It is known by everyone that women have done great things through history. From artists to writers, activists, scientists, actresses… But sometimes these women went unrewarded because of the difficult context they suffered. Due to the society that they were living in they struggled to be taken into account as men, and in most of the time that did not happen. Women were brave to stand out when injustices happened, and to do what they were not supposed to do. They were pioneers in horrible circumstances, they were insulted, treated as crazy and even burnt in fires as witches. It is important to learn about them, to make their effort worth it and to tribute them. That’s why I’ve created this blog. I want to give voice to these women and the importance they deserve. With this purpose, I will talk briefly about an important woman in history in each entry. Let´s learn togethter!, I want you  to get to know women who made history. Hope you like my blog! If you have ...

ROSA PARKS

Rosa went down in history as a brave and fighting woman. Alabama. (4 feb 1913-24 oct 2005) On December 1955 , in Montgomery (Alabama) Rosa Parks was returning from work . She got on the bus and took a seat at the back, in the places allowed for black citizens. As the bus traveled, seats began to be missing and some people remained standing. The driver stopped the bus to ask three black women to get up, realizing that there were white people standing. Rosa Parks refused (Such a rebell!). Obviously, she was arrested. She belonged to an association who fought for the civil rights of African Americans. Her mates began a protest shortly after she was arrested: "We are asking all blacks not to get on buses on Monday. You can miss class one day. If you work, take a taxi or walk. But please do not take any bus on Monday. Please stay out of buses on Monday.” The "Monday" of protest lasted more than a year. For 381 days, the black population of the...

MAYA ANGELOU

Great poet and influential figure of African-American culture who fought for civil rights and equality from the overcoming of childhood trauma. St. Louis, Missouri. (4 april 1928-28 may 2014) When Maya was eight years old, she was raped by her mother's boyfriend. Little Maya told her brother, and this one to the rest of the family. The rapist was killed , probably by Angelou's uncles, and Maya remained speechless for almost five years , believing “that my voice had killed him ; I killed that man because I said his name. And then I thought I would never speak again, because my voice could kill anyone " It was during this period of silence that Maya developed her extraordinary memory, her love for books and literature and her great ability to observe the world around her. She discovered authors such as Dickens, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe... who influenced her life and career. She also discovered black feminist artists such as Frances Harper, Anne Spencer and ...

ADA LOVELACE

Talented mathematic, pioneer in the programing of computers. London. (10 dec 1815-27 nov 1852) She studied literature, music and also astronomy and mathematics. In that aspect she was really privileged. Thanks to her imagination , Ada was able to develop several concepts that are currently considered as visionaries . The most famous is the operation of what is now known as the computer algorithm . Ada took Bernoulli numbers as an example (an infinite series that plays an important role in number theory) to describe, with a diagram, the operations that the Babbage machine would have to perform to calculate them. Amazing Ada also e xplained how that algorithm would be introduced in the machine , and described computer concepts such as "loop" (group of instructions that are executed several times) or "subroutine" (segment of a program that can be done at any time). Another contribution was the concept of a universal machine , the idea of ...
